Exit and emergency lighting, Kyabram

Exit and Emergency Lighting in Kyabram

Six-monthly exit and emergency lighting tests for Kyabram shops, offices, schools, clubs and aged care. Every fitting is run on battery, the log book is filled in and anything that fails is flagged for repair.

When the power drops, these lights have to work

Emergency lights sit idle for months. Then a storm or a fire cuts the power and they are the only thing showing people the way out. If the battery has died since the last test, the corridor stays dark.

Under AS/NZS 2293.2, exit and emergency lights are tested every six months by running each one on battery for at least 90 minutes. We do the test, record it in your log book and tell you straight away which fittings need attention.

What We Check on Every Light

Every exit sign and emergency light on site gets the same test, so you know each one will work when the power goes.

Battery discharge test

Mains power is cut and every light runs on battery. Under AS/NZS 2293.2 it has to stay lit for at least 90 minutes.

Lamps and LEDs

Each fitting is checked to confirm it comes on when the power drops and is bright enough to light the way out.

Signs lit and visible

Exit signs need to be lit, readable and not blocked by stock, shelving, signage or new partitions.

Faulty fittings

Any light that fails or does not last the full test is flagged, with a clear note of what needs repairing or replacing.

Back on charge

Power is restored and fittings are checked to make sure they are charging again, ready for a real outage.

Log book and report

Results are written into the log book and your report, so the record is there when an inspector or insurer asks.

How Often Lights Are Tested

Exit and emergency lighting is one of the essential safety measures Victorian building owners need to keep maintained and recorded. We keep the testing and records up to date for you.

  1. Every six months

Full discharge test, with every fitting run on battery for the required time and the result logged.

  2. When a fitting fails

Failed batteries, lamps or fittings are repaired or replaced, then tested again.

  3. After building work

New walls, doors or fit-outs can hide signs or leave dark spots. Have the layout checked.

Between Tests

A few things to keep an eye on in the months between visits.

  • Look for exit signs that are dim, flickering or out, and let us know.
  • Keep stock, shelving and banners clear of exit signs.
  • Keep the log book somewhere you can find it when an inspector asks.
  • Tell us before a fit-out, so new lighting can be planned in.

Do you test exit and emergency lighting outside Kyabram, such as Shepparton?

Yes. We test exit and emergency lighting in Shepparton and across the Goulburn Valley, as well as around our home base in Kyabram.

Can you test emergency lighting outside business hours in Kyabram?

We are available Mon to Fri, 8 AM to 4 PM. If the test needs to fit around a busy time of day, tell us and we will plan the visit to suit.

How often do exit and emergency lights need testing?

Under AS/NZS 2293.2, exit and emergency lights are tested every six months. Each fitting is run on battery power and has to stay lit for at least 90 minutes. The result goes into the log book.

What happens if a light fails the test?

We note which fitting failed and why, usually a flat battery or a failed lamp, then quote to repair or replace it. Once it is fixed it is tested again and logged.

Will the test disrupt my business?

Only the emergency lighting circuit is affected while the test runs, and normal lights stay on. We plan the test around your hours.

Can you test emergency lights on the same visit as other services?

Yes. Exit lighting is usually tested on the same six-monthly visit as fire extinguishers and hose reels, which keeps it to one booking and one report.
